Dear Louis,

3DSilverLakeFoursome Rotary is known for its generosity at all leve= ls. The Orland Park Club has written a number of checks to worthy organizations and individuals throughout our history. We have done hands on work too and are proud that we continue that tradition sti= ll.

Just two months ago, as a club we agreed to match a challenge gift with a generous donation to the "Alliance for Smiles" efforts helping provide surgery= to children with cleft palates. Since the recent tragedy in Hait= i, we have added donations to fund Rotary relief there as well.=

The money comes first from our own fund raising programs and equally from our members' own dollars. Both the work we do as volunteers and our personal generos= ity is so typical of Rotarians and something I am truly proud of as a l= ong time Rotarian.

<= /p>

Soon, we will begin selli= ng raffle tickets for our scholarship program. At $100 per ticket, in = this economy, it isn't as easy as we'd like it to be to sell 600 tickets. Yet thanks to those who sell and those who buy each year, a number = of high school students will be given a boost towards paying for their college tuition. With the help of counselors at the local high scho= ols, our committee picks students who have good GPAs, a genuine need, an= d a strong history of doing community service. We hope that when asked = to buy a ticket, you will realize the good you are doing (as well as knowing there is a possibility you might just win $20,000 or one of= the other nine cash prizes at the Raffle Night party on May 13th.)

Since last July when I be= came the club president, we have donated to children with physical needs= and illnesses, many local organizations, national and international Rot= ary programs, the City of Palos Heights in celebration of its 50th anniversary, and students at the high school level. I know that before I leave office, there will be others in need and our members will again and again be there with check book in hand to help.

I am proud of our club and what we stand for. Thank you everyone. =

3D"Tom On January 14th, we enjoy= ed a delicious lunch and wonderful hospitality at The Center in Pal= os Park. Dave Sanders provided information on The Center and its many quality programs. 3D"The Pris= cilla Steinmetz, The Bridge Teen Center, provided information on the new center for 13 to 18 year olds. T= he Bridge Teen Center is a faith-based organization that will serve= the community. Programs at The Bridge Teen Center will be offered f= ree of charge, and are professionally designed around the interests = and needs of local teens and their parents.

<= strong>Local Olympians Visit Our Club!

<= span style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#333= 333'> 3D"Olympians &nbs= p; District 230 Coaches, Melissa Wolff, Dave Henry, Eric Peca and Kevin Clark 3D"Students provided an inspirational video, and with their students, shared an overview of the Special Olympics program. The students compete in basketball, cross coun= try, swimming, bocce, snowshoeing and more on a national level. &nbs= p;We saw first hand how the bond between students in the P.E.O.P.E.L progr= am enriched the lives to all those involved. Thank you to all involved for sharing your stories. It = was truly a moving program for all Rotarians in our club.

<= b>Dinner at St. Christopher's March 9th!

3D"Bob Our Club hosted dinner at St. Christopher's last month and and we had so many helping hands that we were finished= by 7:30! We're really getting good at this! On Tuesday, March 9th we will be providing dinner again. We = hope you will be able to help out. We are look= ing for volunteers for two shifts - 4:30pm - 7:00pm and 5:30pm - 8:30 p.m. Please let Keloryn know if you can = work the first or second (or both) shift. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as we will be working for the entire evening. <= strong>Rich Wahlberg invites all Rotarians and their guests to "Support Our Troops Mo= vie Night" on Thursday, February 18th.&= nbsp; This event is hosted by American Legion #615. For a donation of $10, you can see Blazing Saddles and enjoy coffee, dessert and snacks. This event will be held at 7:00 pm at the American Legi= on Hall located at 17423 67th Court in Tinley Park. Please take a moment to ch= eck the Bingo schedule and fill in the few remaining slots. debi Ro= ss has done a great job making sure we have enough volunteers so le= t's see if we can get those last spots filled before Joe McCorry tak= es over as President! Our participation in Kiwanis Bingo raises a significant amount of money for our Club that helps with all= of our programs. Bingo is held every Wednesday at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Avenue, Orland Park. Volunteers w= ork from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. We must provide at least 3 volunteers every week to hold up our committment to the Kiwanis Club. Club members are expected to work at least 6 times per year and many of our members currently do more than this.
