It was nearl=

years ago that I first attended a lunch meeting of the Orland Park
Rotary. A couple of the members had hired an elderly "Lady&quo=
t;
to come and make fun of the president on his birthday. Unfortunatel=
y no
one realized how inappropriate her act would be or how embarrassed =
John
(and many of us) would be either. Even with that, I came back and
joined the club. And here we are all these years later and I have j=
ust
been installed as president for 2009/2010.
As each president before me, I have very ambitious g=
oals
I want to see us accomplish during the next 12 months. With the gro=
up
of members who have already agreed to be a part of the "leader=
ship
team" I feel confident we will do all of this and more! <=
/o:p>
We had a meeting at my house last week to talk about=
our
plans to grow the club, renew interest in attending weekly lunch
meetings, initiate new programs that would help others locally, acr=
oss
the country and around the world! We discussed how we would create
greater awareness of our club and the good we do for others. The
enthusiasm that evening and at recent lunch meetings when members w=
ere
making suggestions for speakers and social activities affirms this =
is
going to be a great year!
The theme of Rotary International is "The futur=
e of
Rotary is in our hands." In Orland Park, there are a lot of ha=
nds
already working! Thank you to each person who volunteered to chair a
committee, work on a project, do bingo on a regular basis, help us
serve dinners at St. Christopher's throughout the year, plan social
events; the Christmas party, and work with the village on our garden
project. Thanks to the board members, those who will write press
releases, this newsletter, keep our web site up to date, or do any =
one
of the other important jobs that make our club the best Rotary club
anywhere - and the most fun and rewarding to be a part of.
I welcome suggestions for how to keep making our club
better, invite those who are interested in joining to come see us in
action, and thank everyone who is lending their hands and hearts to=
the
Orland Park Rotary.

Rotarians,
Because some of you will not be at the Installation Dinner, I want the
entire club to know how grateful I am to each and every one of you for
being so helpful and kind.
I would like to take a few minutes and thank those who helped make my
year as president of the Rotary Club of Orland Park so much fun and
successful. It was not successful because of anything I did but rathe=
r in
spite of me. I will not be handing out cheap plaques, as has been our
custom. Rather I much prefer giving a simple heart felt thank you to
people who have made this year effective with many donations to local
non-profits. The following people gave their time, their heart and
participated in the events and charities the club sponsored. Th=
anks
to all of you.

Participants:
Many of our members donated their time to Bingo, we would not have ha=
d a
revenue source of $20,000 without them Thank you all for your t=
ime
and effort.

Danihel:
Thank you and John Schaefer for all your work as charter members
of the Lemont Club. I am also grateful for your wor=
k on
the board of directors. We will all miss you when you officially star=

Lemont. You were always there when we needed you.

Rich was kind enough to share his wisdom and good council throughout =
the
year. He undoubtedly kept me out of trouble. I suppose it would be mo=

accurate to say that he kept me out of trouble.... most of the time.
Whatever trouble I did get into, I did it all by myself. Rich, thank =
you.

Murphy:
While Rich Lentfer kept me out of trouble, Tom kept me out of jail. H=
is
good humor and easygoing style serves Tom well, both in his work and =
his
service to our club. Tom always helped enthusiastically and did his j=
ob

Ross:
What a bundle of energy she is. Debi lead the EarlyAct Club events and
programs. In addition, she introduced us to Catholic Charities, which=

hope the club will continue to support. Debi is an effective leader a=
nd
wonderful person. All of us look forward to Debi taking a leadership =
role
in the club.

Stoiber: Although
bingo is not what I favor as a revenue generator, its' financial succ=
ess
is unquestioned and we would not have been to make the donations we d=
id
without it. Bingo provides the club with an excellent source of reven=
ue.

Here is a man blessed with an abundance of patience and kindness. I h=

contribution to the club. Club members should also know his contribut=

participation in Kiwanis Bingo raises a significant amount of money f=

our Club that helps with our programs. Bingo is held every
Wednesday at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Avenue,
Orland Park. Volunteers work from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. We
must provide at least 3 volunteers every week to hold up our committm=
ent
to the Kiwanis Club. Club members are expected to work at least=
6
times per year and many of our members currently do more than this.&n=
bsp;

appear on the schedule. If you have signed up for an evening and
discover you cannot volunteer, please be sure to go to the sign-up and
remove your name. If it is within 24 hours of the time you
